The process starts with collecting, cleaning, and drying the onion skins, followed by grinding them into a coarse powder to enhance extraction efficiency. Solvent extraction is typically performed using food-grade ethanol, methanol, or water, often acidified or mildly alkaline, under controlled temperature conditions to preserve pigment stability. Techniques like ultrasound-assisted extraction (UAE) or microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) can be employed to increase yield and reduce processing time. After extraction, the liquid is filtered and concentrated to obtain a vibrant yellow extract. This natural colorant is widely used in textiles, natural cosmetics, and food products.
