A betel leaf oil distillation plant is a specialized facility designed to extract essential oil from the fresh leaves of the betel plant (Piper betle). Betel leaf oil is valued for its sharp, spicy aroma and medicinal properties, including antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, and digestive benefits. It is widely used in traditional medicine, perfumery, flavoring, and aromatherapy.
The oil extraction is primarily done through steam distillation. Freshly harvested betel leaves are loaded into stainless steel distillation chambers where steam passes through the plant material. The heat vaporizes the volatile compounds, which are then condensed back into liquid form. The essential oil separates from the hydrosol and is collected via a Florentine separator. The oil is then filtered and stored in airtight containers to preserve its quality.
Modern betel leaf oil distillation plants feature efficient steam boilers, corrosion-resistant distillation units, condensers, and oil separators with precise control over temperature and pressure to maximize oil yield and preserve the leaf’s delicate aroma. The essential oil is rich in compounds like eugenol and hydroxychavicol, contributing to its distinctive fragrance and therapeutic qualities. The plant operates under strict hygiene and quality standards, ensuring high-purity oil suitable for pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and flavoring industries.
