Ylang-Ylang (Flower) Distillation Plant

A Ylang-Ylang flower distillation plant is a specialized facility designed to extract essential oil from the fragrant flowers of Cananga odorata, commonly known as ylang-ylang. Celebrated for its sweet, floral, and exotic aroma, ylang-ylang essential oil is widely used in perfumery, cosmetics, and aromatherapy for its calming and mood-enhancing effects.

The extraction process primarily employs steam distillation. Freshly harvested ylang-ylang flowers are carefully loaded into stainless steel or copper distillation units. Steam is passed through the flowers at controlled temperature and pressure to vaporize the volatile aromatic compounds. The vapor is then condensed, allowing the essential oil to separate from the floral water (hydrosol). The oil is collected and fractionated into different grades—extra, first, second, and third—based on aroma intensity and composition.

The essential oil contains key aromatic compounds such as linalool, geranyl acetate, and benzyl acetate, which contribute to its distinctive fragrance and therapeutic benefits.
